Google will stop supporting early Nest thermostats on October 25

Google will stop supporting early Nest thermostats on October 25

This week, Google announced that starting October 25, it will cease support and software updates for the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats. Additionally, the company will halt the introduction of new Nest products in Europe.

This means that owners of the Nest thermostats launched in 2011 and 2012 (including the model that was released in Europe in 2014) will stop receiving updates, and those devices will no longer be compatible with the Nest and Home apps. However, users can still manually adjust temperatures and schedules directly on their devices.

“In order to focus our resources on [future] innovations and provide you with the most advanced features on our latest generation of Nest thermostats, we will be phasing out support for three of our oldest models, each more than ten years old,” stated Google.

Regarding the discontinuation of Nest thermostat launches in Europe, the company explained, “European heating systems are distinct and come with various hardware and software needs that complicate the creation of products suited for the wide range of homes.” Existing Nest devices will remain available in Europe until stocks are depleted.
